Today we all try and save water where possible, but the Victorians already had the problem solved by building underground cisterns to collect rainwater (Apologies for the poor quality of the photo, the access was very limited and very dark). Because mains water arrived at the property the old system was decommissioned decades ago. We were asked by the customer to pump out the cistern and check whether the soil pipe in the roof of the cistern had been leaking into the cistern. Once the cistern was empty, Peter from Axminster Drainage was contracted to CCTV the drainage system and found several cracks. When the drainage system has been repaired the rain water gutters are going to be diverted back into the cistern. A pumping system will be designed to enable the rainwater to be utilised for watering the customers very large garden.
